Description

In this clinic you are going to learn how to move more fluent and secure on ice by learning new climbing techniques and understanding the nature of ice better: after some practice on top ropes we will talk about ice and its changing quality in dependency of temperature and weather. By learning to see the bigger picture we will be able to make more elaborate decisions in our future ice climbing.

REQUIREMENTS

This clinic is aimed at climbers who are already initiated.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

Please note that the temperature can be very cold and variable. As a result, bring adjustable layers of clothing, from functional T-shirts to intermediate layers of fleece or wool, a down jacket, a GORE-TEX jacket, Softshell pants, GORE-TEX pants, a hat, a pair of thin and warm gloves, and consider bringing a spare pair.

Compatible crampons for mountaineering boots, technical ice climbing crampons, climbing harness, climbing helmet, 2 ice climbing axes (possible to borrow from our partner’s shop), 2 screw-lock carabiners, a belay system like Reverso or similar, a dynamic lanyard, a charged headlamp, and an approximately 30L backpack.

Sun protection (sunglasses, high SPF sunscreen, lip balm), enough food for the clinic duration, and water (at least 2 liters) for a full day in the mountains. It’s also nice to have a hot beverage in a YETI thermos.

Don’t forget your phone or camera to capture beautiful memories of your experience.

Tanja Schmitt

Tanja was born together with a twin sister, which shaped her life in many ways: she believes in strong partnerships and the positive power to grow by it through interaction. She learnt to exchange natural competition with combining forces through a shared passion.

Extreme ice climbing, mountaineering or extreme endurance endeavours are a way for her to challenge herself by willingly confronting an extremely stressful situation and dealing with it. It’s about personal growth and a way of finding balance.
