Description
You have been ice climbing for several seasons and would like to climb more efficiently by focusing more on your technique and movement efficiency.
This ice climbing clinic is for climbers who want to perfect their movement technique, gain efficiency, and climb more fluidly and safely on ice. It combines practical workshops, demonstrations, and personalized feedback in the field.
Objectives
Improve the quality of ice axe and crampon placement.
Develop economical movements to reduce fatigue.
Strengthen balance and posture on vertical terrain.
Clinic content
Reading the ice structure: identifying solid areas, choosing trajectories, and anticipating movements.
Ice axe techniques: precise striking, effective anchoring, minimal traction, and managing hand changes
Footwork: crampon placement, climbing on front points, weight transfer, and stability
Hand-foot coordination: synchronizing movements to limit unnecessary effort
Body positioning: alignment, managing your center of gravity, and optimal use of your legs
PREREQUISITE
- Climb WI3 grade ice routes
- Know how to belay top rope climbers
- Good physical condition
Schedule
8:00 a.m.: Meet at parking lot P1 (Festiglace reception area) – you will be greeted by the volunteer assigned to your clinic, who will guide the group down into the canyon to pick up your equipment from our partners.
8:30 a.m.: Meet your guide at the reception area in the exhibitors’ village (down in the canyon).
Please be on time so that the group can pick up the equipment and get the most out of the clinic.
Equipment
Required (personal or loaned)
- Harness, helmet
- Ice axe(s) and crampons
- ATC and/or Grigri
- Climbing lanyard, 1 to 2 carabiners
- Warm, waterproof clothing (Gore-Tex)
- Several pairs of gloves
- Thermos, snack or dinner
- Down jacket, base layers, hot pad

Cécilia Buil
Depuis 2001, Cecilia Buil, originaire d’Espagne, est grimpeuse professionnelle et guide d’escalade et d’alpinisme dans les Pyrénées. Elle pratique l’escalade sur glace en hiver et a réalisé des voies jusqu’au niveau WI7 en France, en Italie et dans différents pays à travers le monde. Du Karakorum à l’Himalaya, en passant par le Chili ou les Rocheuses, Cecilia ne cesse d’explorer et d’escalader de nouvelles parois. Elle a réussi des ascensions techniques telles que Shipton Spire, K7 et Changui Tower, au Pakistan, et a ouvert de nouvelles grandes voies au Kirghizistan, en Alaska et au Groenland.
